ACHIEVE GREATNESS WITH YEMI AND BIMBO DAVIDS
Day 8 March 2020
You’re loved in spite of…
Scripture Reference:
“..It was right that we should make merry and be glad, for your brother was dead and is alive again, and was lost and is found”. – Luke 15: 11-32
In our world, we all struggle with performance. We try to perform to win the approval of bosses, a spouse, parents, school system and on and on. We naturally feel that we can only be accepted based on our performances. So the tendency is to live our lives trying to do right and make up for wrongs.
And this is the same way we relate with God. Our relationship with God feels strained because it’s performance-based. But in this story, we see something else in action. We see the love in action. We see unmerited favour in action. We see unearned grace in action.
The prodigal son wanted to get back to his father by making up for his mistakes. But the Father had something else in mind. He welcomed him and restored him. He offered the son grace; unmerited favour that was based on the Father’s love, not the son’s performance.
In fact, the Father had to teach the older son the same lesson. The son thought his Father’s approval would be based on the fact that he was a good son and had performed well. But the father told him “All that I have is yours…” In other words, I accept you because you’re my son not based on what you do.
We will always feel unworthy of God’s love and blessings. But God’s love for us is not based on our worthiness or lack of it. It’s based on His own love and Christ’s worthiness. So don’t struggle to accept His love and blessings.
Daily digest: When you sin, be quick to repent and be confident to receive His love and restoration.
Prayer: Father, thank you for your unmerited favour and grace that you offer me each day. You accept me and bless me not based on my worthiness but because of Christ’s worthiness. And I walk in that understanding. I repent of my mistakes and I boldly walk in your favour today. In Jesus’ name.
