ACHIEVE GREATNESS WITH YEMI AND BIMBO DAVIDS
Day 5 February 2020
The In-Love Experience
Scripture Reference: “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” – John 15:12-13
Many get carried away by the ‘in-love’ experience before marriage. This can be blinding without understanding. Many don’t know that on an average of two years, we transcend from the ‘in-love’ state. This is when we come down from the moon. This is where your eyes, as it were, are now opened practically. The ‘in-love’ experience is not bad, only that many think it will last forever. No! We start there and then get to a stage where the responsibility of love comes in. This is where maturity sets in!
When you are in the ‘in-love’ stage, you’re near perfect. You communicate well, you forgive easily and you can sacrifice anything for the other person. You seem to just be the perfect man or woman. In fact, during your pre-marital counselling sessions in church and they talk about marital challenges and how to handle conflicts and related issues, you just wonder in your heart. You think it can never happen to you. You love this lady or man so much, you think that is not for you. Yes, I understand.
The ‘in-love’ experience is wonderful. It is a temporary emotional high. True love begins after we have transcended from the ‘in-love’ experience. True love cannot begin until the ‘in-love’ experience has run its course. Then you now know if you truly love this individual or not. This is where the test of depth and maturity comes in.
Daily digest: A relationship is like a house. When a light bulb burns out you do not go and buy a new house, you fix the light bulb.
Prayer: Dear Lord, widen my vision beyond my own small world to embrace with knowledge and love the worlds of others. Help me, Lord, to always see you at work in my own life and in the lives of others.
