“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. – Romans 12:2
Man was not created as finality but as a possibility. The outcome of our lives is largely dependent on how far we are willing to develop ourselves. Personal development could be formal (through schooling, trainings, seminars etc.) or informal (through books, articles, relevant CDs and materials). The quality of our minds is what determines the quality or value we command through life.
There is the story of a great man who went to the vet to purchase a dog. He was shown two dogs of the same breed, same color and same size but one was $250 and the other was $5000. He was shocked, thinking that since they looked the same, they should be worth the same, how wrong he was. He asked why this was and was told that the dog worth $5000 was trained and will not embarrass him, in fact, the vet said; you can take this dog with you in an aircraft and be at rest.
This is the value of training and development.
Two people might look the exact same way and even speak alike but the difference is in the quality of their minds and the content of their character. We are encouraged in Romans 12:2 to avoid the danger of conformation but to seek transformation through the renewal or development of our minds. Apostle Paul clearly stated that even our walk with God will be limited if we do not commit to personal development as we will not be able to prove what the will of God is.
