ACHIEVE GREATNESS WITH YEMI AND BIMBO DAVIDS
Day 22 December 2019
Moment of Wisdom – Abigail’s Experience
Scripture Reference: “Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets” – Proverb 1:20
In 1st Samuel 25, we have a narration of how a woman seized a moment to become great. That opportunity could have been missed if Abigail had been afraid or complacent. This is because, she was married to someone who the Bible describes as a fool, and even his name depicts his character (verse 25), and this man, Nabal, had just foolishly disdained God’s anointed, David, who was on his way to destroy him.
Abigail could have just sat at home, secretly thanking God that she would finally be rid of her husband. She could have said, ‘Thank God! Finally, I will be free from this foolish man. Let David come and kill him!’ But she was a discerning woman. She acted immediately by taking peace offerings to David and helped him refocus his attention on God, and her husband’s life was preserved. You know, if she hadn’t done anything and David had killed the men in that household, it is very likely that he wouldn’t appreciate Abigail. He would have judged her in the light of her foolish husband and would not have given her any further thought. Because later in that chapter, when Nabal died of a heart attack this same Abigail became David’s wife. David appreciated her worth and needed her in his life.
Daily digest: There will be situations where you have the option to do nothing or rather decide to step out in faith to protect and preserve lives.
Prayer: Thank you, Lord, for the infilling of the Holy Spirit so I can have spiritual discernment of the things of God.
