ACHIEVE GREATNESS WITH YEMI AND BIMBO DAVIDS
Day 26 February 2020
Courtesy matters
Scripture reference: “Treat everyone you meet with dignity. Love your spiritual family. Revere God. Respect the government.” – 1 Peter 2:17 MSG
“Courtesy costs nothing but buys everything” Abu Talib
Many opportunities have been lost due to a lack of courtesy. Being courteous simply means to have good manners, polite behaviour and considerate and respectful conduct.
Courtesy is not a function of intelligence, social status or educational achievements. Anyone, status or background notwithstanding, can be respectful and considerate to others.
I saw a video skit on Facebook recently which illustrates the effect of a lack of courtesy. Someone on the verge of giving his life to Christ refused vehemently when he realized that the head of the evangelism team was the woman who had ‘rained’ abuses and curses on him earlier that day.
The truth is that there will be more than enough reasons not to be courteous, what with all the hustle and bustle of life. However, rather than spreading the stress and negative emotion you’ve experienced, why not break that cycle, and deliberately choose to make someone happy.
Make up your mind to make someone smile today.
Deliberately choose to appreciate every act done for you today. Say thank you to that lady at the counter, or to that security man that opens the door for you.
Daily digest: Smile brightly as you say good morning to someone in church and compliment them sincerely. Respond to requests with grace, even if the response is a no.
Declaration: I commit to treating everyone I meet today with dignity, respect, and consideration. I honor all men and I will treat others the way I want to be treated, in Jesus’ name.
