Topic: Appearances Matter
“Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him quickly out of the dungeon; and he shaved, changed his clothing, and came to Pharaoh” – Genesis 41:14
Joseph had been in the prison for two extra years since the butler forgot about him. It was now his set time to leave that position. Of course, the time was set by God. The Bible records that despite the fact that he, Joseph, may have been summoned in a rush, he changed his clothing and shaved before he presented himself to Pharaoh.
There’s also a parable that Jesus narrated. A rich man had invited his colleagues and friends to dinner. On the set day, all of them gave reasons for not attending the dinner. Angrily, he sent his messengers to go into the streets and invite whoever they see. They did. However, while the party was going on, the rich man spotted a guest who was not dressed appropriately and sent him out.
Our dressing and overall appearance matter. Apart from the fact that we feel better when we look good, an excellent appearance shows that you honour your partner or spouse when you take care of yourself. It is true that we should place premium on our character, attitude and thought life more than the outward appearance but we cannot claim to serve a beautiful God and not look, smell or feel beautiful.
God affirmed that men look at the outward appearance but he sees the heart. Spice up your marriage, change thy perfume and out on beautiful raiment!

Prayer:
Dear Father, I know you care about the little things. Please help me to care for my appearance even as you work on my mind and my attitude; so that as a whole, I will be a source of glory to your name. Amen.
