God behind the scenes – Part 2
“That night the king had trouble sleeping, so he ordered an attendant to bring the book of the history of his reign so it could be read to him.” Esther 6:1 NLT
In our text today, King Xerxes had an encounter with God. In the preceding chapters, particularly chapter 4, the Jews, including Queen Esther, had embarked on a three day fast. A binding law had been declared for the total alienation of all Jews and they needed deliverance and help.
It’s interesting to note that the name ‘God’ was not mentioned once in the entire book of Esther but You see Him working behind the scenes in all the chapters. In fact, Esther’s ascension to the throne as queen was as a result of God working behind the scenes to preserve His people.
Anyway, that particular night, (Esther 6:1), the king could not sleep. This was no ordinary condition. God took sleep from the king. It was a supernatural condition of sleeplessness. And as a result of that ‘divine encounter’, Mordecai the Jew, was honored and exalted, and the enemy of the Jews was eventually destroyed.
My prayer for you is that God will cause many divine encounters in your life and affairs that will result in your lifting and blessing.
In another episode (the Bible is just like a movie, set in short episodes, isn’t it), a wealthy man’s servant, was given a task to find a wife for his boss’s sole heir. That servant was wise enough to know that it would be a Herculean task for him alone to grant that request. So he turned to God, the One that orchestrates and moves things in our favor. He asked for speed and helps, and God started working.
It wasn’t a coincidence that just at the time the servant was getting to the well was when Rebecca came out to fetch water. (Genesis 24:1-16), and the rest is history.
For God to work on our behalf, we must ensure we pray according to His will (1 John 5: 14-15), and we must be after His will.
“These things dominate the thoughts of unbelievers, but your heavenly Father already knows all your needs. Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” Matthew 6:32-33 NLT
When you get busy attending to God’s kingdom and agenda, God will get busy attending to your needs.
No wonder God got busy on behalf of Mordecai and Abraham’s needs. Mordecai was a lover of God’s people. It played out in his actions and statements when he heard of the plan to kill the Jews. He tore his clothes and put on sackcloths and ashes and practically forced the queen to act (Esther 4).
Abraham loved God so much that he was willing to kill his only son in obedience to God’s instruction.
Make a heartfelt decision to be moved by what moves God and He will daze you with His behind the scenes encounter and blessings.
Prayer:
Lord, I’m grateful to be your child. Help me, Father, to live a life that’s sold out for you. Forgive me for being self-centered and self-focused. I receive grace to be a God-lover and kingdom-pursuer. And I thank You for working behind the scenes on my behalf. In Jesus name, Amen.
