Topic: The Friend that Counsels
But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you, and you do not need that anyone teach you; but as the same anointing teaches you concerning all things, and is true, and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you will abide in Him. – I John 2:27 NKJV
A major characteristic of the Holy Spirit in the hearts of Christians is that he convicts us of sin. He works with our conscience to help us identify, prevent or repent of an act of sin. When we were unbelievers, we lived by the dictates of the world vicariously lived through the flesh.
What Jesus did was that he wiped our sins off of us and gave us a brand new identity in God. Therefore, our new nature abhors sin because we no longer live by the dictates of our fleshly desires and/or wants.
Convicting us of sin does not mean that he condemns us. What it means is that He speaks to our hearts that we may repent of what we have done that our Father is not pleased with. It can be as simple as telling a subordinate “I’m sorry for talking to you that way” or mending a broken relationship.
He acts as a counsellor and guides our daily lives. Oh what sweet relief to know that we can have a clear knowledge on what is on the mind of God per time. This is because God’s Spirit lives in us. What a privilege! Use it today.
Dear Heavenly Father, I appreciate you for your spirit that lives in me. Holy Spirit I pray that you grant me the grace to walk and work with you as I live above the works of sin and the flesh in Jesus name.
