Topic: Love Is Intentional
“People insulted him, but he did not insult them back. He suffered, but he did not threaten anyone. No, he let God take care of him. God is the one who judges rightly”. – 1 Peter 2:23 ERV
The model of our love is Jesus. This means that to mete out love, we need to understand the way Christ loved us. We love because he first loved us. One of the characters of Jesus’ love is that it is intentional.
Every process of Jesus’ death was an intentional step. The Scripture was being fulfilled because Jesus chose to obey the dictates precept by precept. It was a tough decision and even when he almost turned down this nerve wrecking, back breaking assignment, love kept Him going. His love kept him encouraged when the fact that we could reject all that he did for us was placed before him. He did not refuse to go ahead with the promise. He is intentional about how he loves us.
In this way, we have to love all those God has placed in our care; our spouses, our children, our parents, our friends, our siblings etc. We ought to love intentionally just like Christ loved us. We overlook the person’s unlovable present state and love him or her to perfection.
Lord, I receive the strength to be intentional about the love I have towards the people you have given me and everyone at large. I choose to learn from Jesus and commit to loving people to perfection. I draw my strength from Jesus who loved me and gave his life for me, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
