So the people rested on the seventh day. – Exodus 16:30
Most of the destiny mistakes we make are made at the point of tiredness or fatigue. It is said that tired eyes rarely see a great future. Rest is a vital part of the lifestyle of the great. It is a time of recreation and rejuvenation because, as we go about our daily activities, sometimes we get tired and fatigued; this blurs our ability to think clearly which makes it absolutely necessary to take time out to rest.
There is the story of Jesus’ disciples in the book of Mark where Jesus advised His disciples to engage the tool of rest after a major project was completed. This was to restore their strength for the next phase of the assignment and this is a vital lesson for us in an ever so busy world.
If greatness is in view, then rest is not an option but a must. No matter how busy we may get, it’s important that we plan intentionally for our rest. Lack of rest which leads to tired minds have caused more harm to our world than we can imagine. Families have been ruined because of a tired father’s wrong choice, businesses have been wrecked because a tired CEO couldn’t decide with discretion and nations have gone to war because tired leaders could not make healthy governmental decisions.
Rest is as simple as having enough sleep daily and scheduling times during the year to just rest and be away from the hustle & bustle of everyday life. It could mean just taking time out to be with your loved ones, the amount of energy we get by spending time with those we love cannot be quantified; it’s simply refreshing.
