Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many. – Matthew 20:28
Service to God is one visible proof that we love Him. However, service to God which does not reflect in service to mankind is only mechanical as the true essence of service is reaching out to mankind with the love we have received from God. If we cannot truly serve anyone we do not love, then it becomes important that in order to serve mankind properly, we have to make a deliberate choice to love people.
For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” – Galatians 5:14
The NEIGHBOUR referred to in the scripture above includes everyone we come in contact with, irrespective of their social, financial, educational or religious inclination. Pride overestimates self over others and seeks to rise at the expense of others, humility will not act that way. In humility, we value people and treat them with respect and honor.
It could be as simple as serving people with a smile, or a word of encouragement or a warm embrace. It could even be as mundane as deciding to greet people more deliberately; this is where service starts. Every human being is made in the image and likeness of God; what humility does is to respond to the God in people by treating them right and with utmost value. Sometimes, the purity of service to mankind is seen when we serve those who do not have the capacity to return the favor.

My Father, I love you. I ask that you help me to walk in humility. Help me walk in love with my neighbor as you have commanded. So I can serve you indeed and in truth in Jesus name.
