“The rich rule over the poor, and the borrower is a slave to the lender.”
Proverbs 22:7 NIV
The verse of scripture above signals a very strong warning against something we treat very lightly in our generation. Over the years, financial institutions have painted a picture of everyone, making it look like it’s impossible to live without debt and make debt seem like a necessity to financial prosperity. The truth is it is quite the opposite, one of the biggest blockers to personal financial prosperity is debt.
There’s an African proverb that says, “to cut your coat according to your size”, I think that’s grossly incorrect, I believe it is more important “to cut your coat according to your cloth”. You make a decision to live on what is available per time. Live below your means and you will have plenty to spare. Live above your means and you will be drenched in a lifestyle of debt. The dangerous thing about debt is its enticing and deceitful ability to grow bigger. We start borrowing small until the habit has grown so big we start living a lie.
If you are in this situation, please seek the help of a financial counsellor and chart your way out of debt and into financial prosperity as urgently as you can. If your situation is not so intense, then you can decide not to live in debt by simply living below your means. Owe no man anything, let love be your only debt! Romans. 13:8(CEV).
PRAYER
My Heavenly Father, I bless you for my finances. I break every cycle of debt in life. I declare that all my debts are supernaturally paid. I receive grace to live within my means in Jesus name.
